National Alaska Cruise Week Set to Help Travelers Chart Their Dream Course North
Inaugural celebration set for August 16, 2026, offering free educational workshops, expert guidance, and booking insider tips during peak Alaska travel season.
RINGGOLD, GA — August 2026 — Millions of Americans dream of seeing Alaska’s glaciers, rugged coastlines, and wildlife, but navigating dozens of cruise ships, itineraries, and excursions can quickly turn a dream vacation into an overwhelming chore. To turn that confusion into confidence, the National Day Calendar has officially registered National Alaska Cruise Week, set to be celebrated annually during the third week in August, starting August 16, 2026.
Founded by Meredith and DeWayne Tudor of Georgia-based Alaska Cruise Planning (a brand under Simple Traveler Vacations), National Alaska Cruise Week was created to bridge a major knowledge gap in the travel industry. While cruise travel to Alaska has surged by 78% over the past decade—with cruise passengers now accounting for roughly two-thirds of all summer visitors to the 49th state—many aspiring travelers hesitate to take the leap due to complex planning choices.
"Traveling to Alaska feels less like a typical vacation and more like a true expedition," said Meredith Tudor, founder of Alaska Cruise Planning. "With so many ships, sailing routes, and land tours available, people often don't know where to start. We established National Alaska Cruise Week to give travel lovers, writers, and educators a dedicated moment each year to learn, ask questions, and take that vital first step toward their bucket-list adventure."
Why August?
Mid-August represents the heart of Alaska’s active sailing season, making it the perfect time for vacationers to gather inspiration while seeing current voyages underway. Crucially, late summer is also the prime booking window for the following year’s season, ensuring early planners secure the best cabin locations, competitive rates, and highly sought-after excursions like glacier helicopter tours, dog sledding, and historic train rides.
How to Participate in National Alaska Cruise Week:
Attend Free Virtual Workshops: Join live Q&A sessions with Alaska travel experts to understand the key differences between mega-ships and small expedition vessels, as well as one-way vs. round-trip itineraries.
Map Out Itineraries: Explore options for pairing an Inside Passage cruise with land-based tours into interior Alaska, such as Denali National Park.
Consult Destination Specialists: Access complimentary planning resources and direct advice from dedicated Alaska cruise specialists.
Share the Journey: Past Alaska cruisers are invited to post photos of calving glaciers, breaching whales, and mountain vistas on social media using #NationalAlaskaCruiseWeek and #AlaskaCruiseWeek.
