NATIONAL ROLLER SKATING MONTH | October

National Roller Skating Month is an annual designation observed in October. Depending on where you live… This may not be the BEST month to grab some blades and take them for a spin outside. But if there’s not snow on the ground, now’s the time to give roller skating (or roller blading, whichever you want to call it) a chance! Roller skates have been around since the mid-1700’s when the first recorded inventor of the skates, John Joseph Merlin, rolled into a lavish party in London… and crashed into a huge mirror, sustaining a few small injuries. Today, roller skates are everywhere! Many retro-themed restaurants still have their waiters and waitresses rolling around in them. People also roller blade for exercise. It’s a fun, healthy hobby to get into!

HOW TO OBSERVE

Get together with a group of friends and go roller skating. Take some fun pictures or videos, and use #RollerSkatingMonth to post on social media. There are even a few fun tricks you can try! See who can stay standing the longest. (Falling on roller skates doesn’t hurt that bad. Promise.)
