NATIONAL LUMPY RUG DAY
National Lumpy Rug Day on May 3rd each year takes two approaches to celebrating.
Some people view the day as a day to appreciate a good, clean rug and incorporate that into spring cleaning. Along with this view, is the idea to enjoy the old lumpy rugs and the comfort they have brought to your home.
The other view regarding the day is the way we sometimes sweep unwelcome facts and issues “under the rug.” We often take bad news we want to ignore and tuck it away so we can avoid it. That’s how we sweep them under the rug. Though, it rarely does us any good.
However, there are ways to approach a lumpy rug to make it smooth again. Try these tricks:
- Depending on the material, heat helps to soften the threads. You can use steam or iron on natural fibers to help straighten out your unruly rug.
- Another heat approach is to lay your rug face down in the sun. Let the warmth smooth your rug flat again.
- Put your rug in reverse. If the lumps and bumps are from storing the rug rolled up, roll it in the opposite direction.
No matter which way you choose to celebrate, take action on the day.
