National Crossing Guard Day was submitted by the family of Steven Winn, who was sadly struck and killed on January 28, 2025, by a negligent driver who ran a red light. Known as the Crossing Guard Santa by his students, Steven's family wanted to honor Steven's memory by reminding drivers to slow down, pay attention, and respect school zones. It could help save lives.
The Registrar at National Day Calendar approved National Crossing Guard Day to be celebrated each year on January 28, beginning in 2027.
