Where the World Gathers to Celebrate Every Day

Great American Pizza Bake - Second Week in February

GREAT AMERICAN PIZZA BAKE

The second week in February is time to get your pizza on! The Great American Pizza Bake challenges you to bake your own.

It’s cheaper, about $4.00 a pizza. You can make it the way you like. It’s easy, and you know exactly what’s in it. Check out a frozen pizza, and you’ll see the ingredient list is long and often unpronounceable. And when you know what you and your family like, make your own pizza! Make more than one at a time to stock your freezer with your own ready to bake pizzas.

All you need is a thick spicy tomato sauce, pizza dough and your choice of vegetables and/or meats — Bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes. You can even start the day with a ham, egg and cheese breakfast pizzas.

Common ingredients we’ve found:
Italian sausage, ground beef, ham, olives, onions, green bell pepper, garlic, onion, mushrooms peppers.

Less common ingredients:
zucchini, eggplant,

Weird ingredients we found that are served in California restaurants:
Lobster, tuna, grapes, bananas, and even peanut butter.

The weirdest ingredient is from New York: Gold. A restaurant in the financial district of New York City makes a pizza topped with 24-Karat Gold. The price tag? $2,000.
