NATIONAL SUPPORT PUBLIC EDUCATION DAY

NATIONAL SUPPORT PUBLIC EDUCATION DAY

National Support Public Education Day on July 30th shines a vital light on the cornerstone of our communities: our public school systems. Today is about showing our appreciation for educators, staff, and the schools that shape the next generation of citizens.

#SupportPublicEducationDay

Public schools are the heart of our communities that serve millions of children across the nation. They provide each student with equal learning opportunities and a safe environment to grow. When we support them, we are investing in our future. Even though schools are closed in late July, the public education system is beginning to prep for the upcoming school year. Administrators, maintenance, and teaching staff are all working while students are enjoying the middle of summer vacation.

A strong school system requires a partnership between the school district and community year-round. National Support Public Education Day is an opportunity for everyone, including those without school-aged children, to acknowledge and celebrate the service all school staff provide.

Pillars of Public Education

  1. Public education welcomes every single child, regardless of socioeconomic status, background, or learning ability, ensuring that everyone gets a shot at a brighter future.

  2. Public education provides:

    • School lunch programs that combat childhood food insecurity.

    • Mental health counseling for students struggling outside of school to help look out for their well-being.

    • Extracurricular sports and funding for those who are unable to afford activities.

  3. Strong public schools attract businesses, elevate property values, and train the future local workforce, making communities more vibrant and resilient for future graduates to build a life.

PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL SUPPORT PUBLIC EDUCATION DAY

Supporting public education means supporting the education of every child in your community. Here are a few ideas for you to take action on National Support Public Education Day:

  • Teachers spend a lot of money out of their personal pockets to ensure their classrooms have supplies for the school year. Find a local teacher's list by looking online or calling your local school, purchase items and make the donation to that classroom.

  • Many community groups organize back-to-school drives to collect school supplies for students who need a helping hand. Make a donation or volunteer your time to sort and deliver the school supplies.

  • Volunteer as an after-school tutor or mentor, attend school theater productions, or attend sporting events to show community support.

  • Send a letter of gratitude to a teacher or other school staff member who made a difference in your life. Add a small gift card as a special treat!

  • Attend upcoming school board meetings to become involved and stay informed about issues in the school system. You may even consider running in your local school board election!

  • Share your support and tag your school district to thank all school staff on social media using the hashtag #SupportPublicEducationDay.
