According to National Day Calendar, February 18th is National Drink Wine Day.  Here are seven ways North Dakotans can celebrate this popular vino holiday.

7.  Cook with wine.  This white wine herb sauce is great with chicken or white flesh fish.

6.  Put a bottle or two of vino in a snowbank.  If the bottle of wine cools to below freezing, as soon as you remove the cork, air mixes with the wine to create the North Dakota Wine Slush!Wine Bottle in Snow

5.  Make a toast to good health.  Drinking 4 – 8 ounces of wine a day increases longevity.  Wine also reduces your chance for cataracts, heart disease, heart attack and type 2 diabetes along with offering many other health benefits.

4.  Make your own wine.  There are many recipes to make your own wine, even from fruits grown in North Dakota.  You can also go to places like Vintner’s in Bismarck or Uncorked in Fargo to create as well as label your own wine creations.

3.  Go out for dinner.  Many of the fine restaurants in North Dakota have a great selection of wines.  So whether you are at Maxwells in West Fargo, 10 North Main in Minot or the Harvest Brazilian Grill in Mandan, enjoy a glass of vino with your dinner.

2.  Warm up with red wine.  February is typically one of the coldest months of the year in North Dakota.  Red wine has a natural tendency to warm up the extremities.

1.  Support a local winery.  With 24 wineries in North Dakota (yes, 24), you can easily find a local wine to your liking.  “Our Strawberry Rhubarb wine is a local favorite”, states Greg Kempel of Maple River Winery in Casselton, ND.  North Dakota tourism even provides an online map to make it easy to find and enjoy local wineries.

We know there are many more ways that North Dakotans will celebrate National Drink Wine Day on February 18th. Take photos of your National Drink Wine Day celebration and post on social media using #NationalDrinkWineDay.
