Recipe of the Day

Brandied Cranberry Sauce

Brandied Cranberry Sauce
Prep: 5 minutes
Cook: 1 hour
Total prep: 1 hour 5 minutes
Servings: About 3 cups


4 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
2 cups sugar
1/3 cup brandy or orange juice


Place 4 cups cranberries in 9×13″ baking pan Sprinkle with 2 cups sugar Cover and bake 1 hour at 300 degrees Remove from oven, stir carefully (I smoosh them a bit). Stir in 1/3 cup brandy or orange juice. Pour into jars or serving dishes. Store in refrigerator.

November 22nd Celebrated History


The United States Patent Office granted Carl J.E. Eliason of Sayner, WI patent No. 1,650,334 for a vehicle for snow travel. Eliason’s motor toboggan would revolutionize snow recreation and pave the way for the snowmobile.


The animal welfare organization, The Humane Society of the United States is established. They’ve been sheltering pets ever since and matching them to their ideal homes.


Walt Disney Pictures releases Toy Story, the first feature-length animated film that was entirely computer-generated. Pixar Animation produced the film and John Lasseter directed it. The movie featured the voices of Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head, and Annie Potts as Little Bo-Peep. The film brought our childhood imaginations to life on the big screen and took us along for the adventure. Since then, three more installments of Woody and Buzz’s adventures have been logged!


Angela Merkel becomes the first woman elected Chancellor of Germany since reunification.

November 22nd Celebrated Birthdays

Abigail Adams – 1744

Adams served as the second First Lady of the United States. She was the wife of President John Adams, his advisor, and a fervent advocate of women’s rights. She and one other First Lady form a unique club that no other First Ladies have joined; They were also the mothers of presidents. Barbara Bush is the other member of the exclusive club.

Wiley Post – 1899

In 1933, the aviator became the first to fly solo around the world. He completed the journey in 7 days, 18 hours, 49 minutes.

Helenka Pantaleoni – 1900

In 1947, the silent film actress helped found the U.S. Fund for UNICEF and served as the organization’s director for 25 years.

Jerrie Mock – 1925

In 1964, Mock became the first woman to fly around the world solo. Nicknamed “The Flying Housewife,” Mock had competition during her journey. Joan Merriam Smith was also attempting to set the record.

Arthur Jones – 1926

The inventor is best known for patenting numerous exercise products for his Nautilus, Inc. line of equipment. He also founded MedX, Inc.
