NATIONAL LEGWEAR DAY
The leaves are starting to change colors, the air is getting cooler, and the fashion magazines are covering the best of fall style. With legwear – sheers, tights, leggings, anklets and men’s, women’s and kids’ socks – being one of the most important ways to express personal style and complete a look, the garment needed its own holiday. As of this day, National Legwear Day will now and forever be celebrated on Sept. 22, the first day of fall.
This is a day whose time has come, particularly considering the first pair of stockings were presented to the Queen of England in 1598. Now, women can choose from numerous types of legwear, including opaque, brightly colored tights, textured anklets and foundation finish sheer hose in shades for all skin colors and tones. Men’s socks have evolved from the basics to offerings with statement-making graphics and colors; from functional to an expression of style as ties disappear from the workplace. And kids continue to enjoy fun characters and prints, along with a rainbow of colors, in their legwear.
