Katie says, “Playing classical music is difficult and very stressful. So I enjoy breaking up the monotony of classical music for cello to seeing what else my instrument can do. National Day Calendar inspires me to push out of my comfort zone to see what else the cello can do. All the while have a fun time behind the cello! My hope is that other classical musicians can get into having fun and enjoy life and music. Life is too short to be stressed out so celebrate it every day!”

Celebrate Every Day – More about Katie Chambers

I have been teaching cello, piano, and violin for over 15 years and now get to share music with students all over the world with online classes. We have a great time! Even though the majority of my online presence is solo cello, my first love is collaboration with other talented people. I love to play in musical theater, especially new works. I lent my cello playing to Imagination Stage’s first piece of theater for the very young in 2009. “Wake Up, Brother Bear!” has gone on to tour the world and entertain thousands of young children.

I always look forward to duet concerts with my pianist and best friend Ryan Shookman. Be sure to catch us in Amsterdam on AmaWaterways before we “cruise” away! Of course, I love to play in duos, trios, and quartets for weddings up and down the east coast. But my favorite collaborations are putting the cello where it is least expected! Playing with a gospel choir, hard-core rock band, indi folk artists or country band. The cello has introduced me to many different people and styles of music. The cello has brought me closer to others from all around the world and has brought me closer to myself. I hope to bring that feeling of closeness and togetherness to you with my music or teaching you cello!
