  • NATIONAL FOSTER CARE MONTH – May

    NATIONAL FOSTER CARE MONTH

May is set aside as National Foster Care Month honoring the foster parents, families, and those who support children throughout their journey to find a permanent home.

A child’s welfare takes priority every day in the lives of caseworkers, guardians, counselors, advocates, and foster parents. Building meaningful relationships and foundations take time. Every year, National Foster Care Month recognizes the dedicated people who promote compassionate, stable homes for children.

These parents and professionals focus not only on the emotional and physical needs of the children but on their long-term educational goals and overall health. Each step along the way, they are aware of the obstacles each child may have already had to overcome in life. Everyone deserves to be surrounded by the love and support of a family and foster care specialists seek to find the safest environment for every child.

    HOW TO OBSERVE #NationalFosterCareMonth

Support those who provide care and if you are able, consider being a foster parent. The need is increasing. Use #FosterCareMonth to share on social media.

  • CORRECT YOUR POSTURE MONTH – May

    CORRECT YOUR POSTURE MONTH

Correct Your Posture Month encourages us to consciously think about the way we align our bodies during the different activities we perform every day.

Poor posture affects our long-term health. Over time, poor posture causes bone and joint issues that places our quality of life at risk. From pain and discomfort to other health issues caused by medication use, slouching can be the ground zero issue that if remedied early can save a lot of agony later.

Like many small concerns that snowball later in life, poor posture can lead to debilitating headaches, injury, circulatory issues, etc.

    HOW TO OBSERVE #CorrectYourPostureMonth

    Good posture comes with practice.

    • It’s important to stretch and move every 30 minutes if you work at a desk.
    • Strengthen your core muscles.
    • Work on your balance and take the stairs.
    • Check your ergonomics. Are you able to reach the floor easily in your chair? Is your keyboard too high or too low?
    • Is your car your office? There are ways to make your ride ergonomic, too.

  • INTERNATIONAL DRUM MONTH – May

    INTERNATIONAL DRUM MONTH

International Drum Month sets the rhythm all month long.

Every music lover knows the percussion section gets people out of their seats and onto the dance floor. We don’t need a symbol to get us moving. Whether we’re attending a concert or playing with friends, it doesn’t take much for us to chime in.

Within a few notes of the drum or cymbal, we can identify our favorite tunes. Children will even tap out a rhythm at an early age. Music is in our hearts. We were born to play.

Throughout the month, attend a concert or pick up your favorite percussion instrument to play. Visit the local music store and explore the latest gear and see what you’ve been missing. Maybe it’s time for a lesson or two.

    HOW TO OBSERVE #InternationalDrumMonth

Don’t have any drums or percussion instruments? Try these ideas to participate:

    • Use only your fingertips and a tabletop to tap out a beat.
    • Listen as your co-worker prints out a document. Using two pencils, drum out a complimentary beat.
    • Gently squeeze a half-empty soda can at a steady tempo while tapping the can on the table.
    • Learn more about other musical instruments. Read 5 Tuneful Origins of Celebrated Musical Instruments.

  • NATIONAL DENTAL CARE MONTH – May

    NATIONAL DENTAL CARE MONTH

During the month of May, National Dental Care Month takes time to remind us of the importance of caring for our pearly whites. Thaddeus P.Hyatt promoted preventative dental care in the early 1900s.

Today, oral hygiene is learned at an early age. Brush twice a day, floss, keep the sugary snacks to a minimum and see your dentist twice a year. That’s what we learn. Beyond childhood, it seems, we forget all we have learned.

A healthy smile requires continued healthy habits. Maintaining those habits reduces the risks of cavities and infection and the costs associated with long-term dental repairs. If it’s been a while since your last visit, understand that dentists today appreciate your fears. They will do everything they can to alleviate your anxiety and get your smile back on track

National Dental Care Month brings awareness just in time for a summer full of family reunions, weddings, and vacations – all times when we love to take pictures and smile! So, brush up on your dental care and check-up with your dentist.

    HOW TO OBSERVE #NationalDentalCareMonth

    • Review your dental care habits. Remember, dentistry isn’t expensive, neglect is.
    • Check-in with your dentist to ensure you are maintaining a healthy smile.
    • Make the recommended adjustments to your routine or keep up with the healthy ones you already have!

    NATIONAL DENTAL CARE MONTH HISTORY

Dr. Tim Stirneman and Jim Wojdyla from Compassionate Dentalcare founded National Dental Care Month to encourage healthy dental hygiene and improve awareness concerning preventative dental care. Stopping cavities before they begin prevents a lot of pain and expense in the future.

The Registrar at National Day Calendar proclaimed National Dental Care Month to be observed annually beginning in 2018.

  • Celiac Disease Awareness Month – May

    CELIAC DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH

Celiac Disease Awareness Month focuses on raising support for research and education surrounding this condition that affects an estimated 3 million Americans.
