When National Hug Your Cat Day rolls around each year on June 4th, the purr-fect opportunity presents itself for some snuggle time. Depending on your feline critter’s nature, hugging may not be in the cards. However, like most animals, touch is a vital part of communication – and the same goes for the claw-ful kind.
#HugYourCatDay
All kitten aside, if you’re fur-tunate enough to have a feline friend, any attention they give you may be a blessing. Others never leave your side and cuddle often. Of course, most cats have purr-sonality in spades.
Meow, if your feline friend becomes hiss-terical when you try to hug him, you may have to settle for a boop. It’s un-furr-tunate, but it is an option. Those who don’t have any feline companionship may need to litter-ally visit a neighbor or volunteer at a local shelter. Those paw-some critters need some hugs, too.
HOW TO OBSERVE HUG YOUR CAT DAY
Love on your furr-tunate kitty. While you’re at it, make it a purr-manent part of your routine. If you are considering getting a cat, adopt instead of purchasing one. Share some paw-some kitties with cat-ittude by using #HugYourCatDay on social media.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF INNOCENT CHILDREN VICTIMS OF AGGRESSION
Every year on June 4th, the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression acknowledges the pain that children around the world suffer. Many of these children are victims of physical, mental, and emotional abuse. It’s also a day that the UN affirms its duty to protect children’s rights.
#InnocentChildrenVictimsOfAggressionDay
Sadly, children are among the most innocent victims of pain and suffering. Throughout the world, many children live in areas where war and conflict is a part of their everyday life. According the recent statistics, 536 million children live in countries affected by conflict or disasters. About 50 million children have been displaced from their home. When these children get displaced, it increases their vulnerability to violence and exploitation. This is largely due to the fact that these children become orphans or are separated from their families.
Emotional, physical, sexual, and mental abuse is also a reality for millions of children throughout the world. An estimated 200 million children a year are victims of sexual violence every year.
Countries where children are the least safe include:
Pakistan
Egypt
Mozambique
Vietnam
China
Argentina
Russia
Nigeria
Indonesia
The UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 16 promotes peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development. As part of this goal, the UN hopes to end abuse, exploitation, trafficking, and all forms of violence against children by 2030.
HOW TO OBSERVE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF INNOCENT CHILDREN VICTIMS OF AGGRESSION

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF INNOCENT CHILDREN VICTIMS OF AGGRESSION HISTORY
On August 19, 1982, the UN General Assembly declared that June 4th would be observed as the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. The UN made the decision during an emergency special session on the question of Palestine. The day originally focused on the children affected by the 1982 Lebanon War. The day also focused on Palestinian children that were victims of other conflicts in the Middle East.
Today, the day focuses on children throughout the world who are innocent victims of violence and abuse.
This observation encourages brands to develop clean and sustainable beauty products from the beginning of their life cycle to the end. At the same time, the celebration educates consumers about seeking better product choices. The movement demands change in our clean beauty practices for a more sustainable world.
#NationalCleanBeautyDay
Until now, Clean Beauty focused exclusively on formulas and ingredients. Clean Beauty has to mean more. It must embrace everything from ingredient sourcing to production methods, focusing on consumer transparency and the desire to innovate for future generations.
Every year, the world produces 260 million tons of plastic. Less than 10 percent of it will ever be recycled. The rest of the 90 percent ends up in landfills or as litter in our surrounding environment. * Estimates predict that by 2050, the ocean will contain more plastic by weight than fish.**
National Clean Beauty Day is a call to action for the beauty industry to create products with clean ingredients. It also celebrates the changemakers who are creating circular, restorative products. Clean Beauty empowers future generations by creating a more sustainable beauty industry.
More and more, consumers are demanding good-for-you ingredients and environmentally friendly packaging from their products. As the beauty industry responds and begins to offer these choices, consumers and the environment will reap the benefits.
HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL CLEAN BEAUTY DAY
National Clean Beauty Day on June 4th, encourages you to take the FEKKAI My Hair Cares Pledge and commit to a cleaner and more sustainable beauty lifestyle. You can also join a clean beauty educational session. These sessions help you to learn how your company can incorporate sustainable changes.
Contact your favorite beauty company and let them know you support the Clean Beauty movement. Tell them you support clean ingredients and changes to their packaging that are environmentally friendly. Buy products from leaders in the Clean Beauty industry.
While taking the pledge, share the day on social media and promote the clean and sustainable products you love the most. And when you do, use #NationalCleanBeautyDay and tag @FEKKAI to share on social media. You can find our staff picks for clean beauty products here.
NATIONAL CLEAN BEAUTY DAY HISTORY
FEKKAI founded National Clean Beauty Day in 2020 to bring awareness to the current state of the industry. As a leader in Clean Beauty, Fekkai launched the day to educate current and future generations so we can improve our clean beauty practices, and join hands with like-minded brands to create a cleaner, more sustainable beauty world.
The Registrar at National Day Calendar proclaimed National Clean Beauty Day to be observed annually on June 4th.
About FEKKAI
Frédéric Fekkai, the famed hairstylist, founded the FEKKAI brand in 1989. After a long and storied career, including national salons and successful product lines, Frédéric sold his brand. One morning, a realization struck him. The beauty industry hadn’t yet caught up to the rest of the world regarding clean product formulations and sustainability. Reinvigorated, Frédéric’s vision to bring innovation to the beauty category took root.
In November of 2018, Frédéric reacquired his brand and put his vision into motion with the relaunch of FEKKAI in January 2020. FEKKAI achieves clean and sustainable haircare through vegan, cruelty-free, and salon-grade formulas. Their formulas are free of nasties and full of performance – no sulfates, silicones, paraben, or phthalates.
Not only do they craft their packaging from 95% recycled plastic, but it’s also domestically sourced. That makes each bottle and tube 100% recyclable on its own. Additionally, the shipping boxes are 100% recyclable, and packing materials are 100% recyclable. As a result, FEKKAI eliminates an estimated 330 tons of plastic waste and redirects it to recycling plants. There, the recycling plants reprocess and convert the material into usable plastic.
This is FEKKAI’s commitment to future generations and the planet. In the brand’s first year, they will repurpose 64 million grams of plastic. That’s roughly 7 million plastic bottles – and they are just getting started.

June 4th and National SAFE Day holds the power to prevent tragedy from repeating itself. One in every three households in the United States has a gun stored somewhere inside. The Brooklynn Mae Mohler Foundation is committed to ending senseless child deaths through education of responsible gun ownership and empowering parents to ask about guns where their children visit.
#NationalSAFEDay
How many close friends does a child have? One in three households has a firearm. If one of those households has a gun, is it secure? What about family members? Do they visit cousins or other relatives that may have unsecured guns? Secure storage is vital to the safety of children and is the responsibility of the gun owner.
The life of one innocent child is not worth challenging the odds of possibility. There are many ways to secure a firearm and still allow for fast access. There is no excuse to place easy access above child safety.
Parents, whether gun owners or not, need to take steps to educate children and to ask the question when in homes where their children visit. “Are there any unsecured firearms in the home?”
HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL SAFE DAY
S- Secure all firearms in the home
A- Ask the question about unsecured firearms in the homes your child visits
F- Frequently talk to your children about the dangers of firearms
E- Educate and Empower others to be SAFE
Use #NationalSafeDay #bmmf #AskTheQuestion #SeaOfPink #SafeGuns #JusticeForBrooklynn to share on social media.

Each year on June 4th, brandy lovers and distillers celebrate National Cognac Day. A well-known variety of brandy, Cognac was named after the town of Cognac in France in which it is produced. The region is also known for vineyards and producing wine.
#NationalCognacDay
A distilled brandy must meet certain legal requirements within the production to bear the name Cognac. One requirement during production includes the use of a particular variety of grape. The primary grape used is Ugni Blanc. Additionally, the brandy needs to be distilled twice in copper pot stills. Distillers must also age the brandy at least two years in French oak barrels from Limousin or Troncais. However, most distillers age their cognacs much longer than the minimum legal requirement.
Producers create close to 200 cognacs to choose from. According to one 2008 estimate, more than 90% of cognac for the U.S. market comes from only four producers.
There are also different ways of drinking cognac. Enjoying the spirit on its own, it may be savored neat or over ice. Cognac may even be diluted with a little water. However, cognac may also be used to create a variety of cocktails, too. Distillers also use cognac to create other liqueurs and mixers create even more variety to their bar collection.
HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL COGNAC DAY
Celebrate the day by savoring a glass of cognac. You can also enjoy a cocktail using a cognac-based liqueur or aperitif as an ingredient. Some examples include:
Grand Marnier – made from cognac and distilled essence of bitter orange
Pineau des Charentes – a sweet aperitif, composed of eau-de-vie and grape must
Domaine De Canton – cognac-based ginger liqueur
Dutch brandy (Vieux) – Dutch imitation cognac, usually containing some cognac
Share your favorite way to savor cognac by using #NationalCognacDay to post on social media.

Moooove over whiners! June 4th is National Cheese Day! An encyclopedia of cheese will cover the alphabet and broaden your vocabulary. It will undoubtedly contain more varieties of cheese than what’s found at the local grocer.
#NationalCheeseDay
Cheese is produced from the pressed curds of milk. The milk can come from cows, buffalo, goats, or sheep. Temperature and aging affect the flavor and texture of the cheese, as well as spices and other seasonings added during the process.
The opportunity to go to a cheese tasting or visit a cheesemonger who is knowledgeable about pairings will improve your enjoyment of the cheese you choose. Does Stilton melt? Can you serve Chévre with a salad? Be sure to ask questions and provide your preferences. Your favorite wine might find a new sidekick. You might discover a smokey spread to go with bruschetta or a tangy cheddar to pack with lunch.
In the United States, a road trip to Wisconsin isn’t out of the question for quality and variety. But, they aren’t the only place to find outstanding flavor and choice. Local delis have selections of domestic and imported cheeses, and independent shops offer a rotating inventory beckoning us to keep visiting to see what’s new.
Excellent as a snack on its own, cheese is also a perfect ingredient in pasta, soups, souffle, and many other recipes. We slap it on a sandwich cold, but why stop there when it can be grilled and melted like this amazing Swiss and Tomato Grilled Cheese recipe. When company comes to visit, nothing is better than a cheeseball, especially when bacon is added.
Cheese is multinational, too! Every nation in the world has its own variety of cheese. Italy seems to have harnessed the market. They did add it to pizza, and that’s pretty amazing. Savor the opportunity if you ever have the chance to taste cheeses from around the world. For example, hop on over to Greece. They have this dessert called cheesecake. Delicious!
HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL CHEESE DAY
There are many ways to celebrate National Cheese Day. Try a new recipe or take a risk and try a type of cheese you’ve never heard of before. Ask for recommendations from friends or share your favorites. Make sure you post to social media using #NationalCheeseDay

Every year on June 4th, National Old Maid’s Day recognizes the women who never marry and remain childless. While the term may not seem to be flattering, less complimentary terms such as spinster, have been used to describe single, childless women for centuries.
#OldMaidsDay
However, the observance celebrates Old Maids everywhere and their contributions to their families and communities. While they may be single, it does not mean they are solitary. Today, Old Maids are often career-oriented, postponing marriage, and motherhood by choice or by circumstance. From a lively social life to a commitment to volunteerism as well as involvement in their church, community organizations and their extended family Old Maids are hardly wallflowers waiting to be asked to dance.
Beyond being active in their communities, these women often dedicate time to their extended family, too. Often they may organize family reunions or are the keeper of family history. These women are the glue that keeps families, communities, and organizations running smoothly.
HOW TO OBSERVE OLD MAID’S DAY
Celebrate the day by revising your definition of an Old Maid to one that describes an empowered, independent woman who embraces life. Get together with a group of your friends and play an Old Maids card game or bake a tasty Old Maid’s Vinegar Pie or this delicious Old Maid Cake. Wear the title with pride. There’s a lot of hard work that goes into being an Old Maid. The rewards do not have to lead to a lonely life. Old Maids often collect great friendships along the way. Their travels sometimes take them to every corner of the world, too. As you celebrate the day, share your experiences as an Old Maid. Or honor a friend or family member using #OldMaidsDay to post on social media.
NATIONAL OLD MAID’S DAY HISTORY
In 1948, Marion Richards of Jeffersonville, Pa, held the first Old Maid’s Day gathering. According to a June 4, 1982, Asbury Park Press article, “Guests ranged from 75 years old down to an age when hope still flickered.” Richard created the day to honor all the contributions Old Maids offer to their communities and their families. During Richard’s generation, single women played a major role in many areas of the schools, churches, offices, and their families. While June is full of floral bouquets, white lace, and wedding plans, Richards had hopes that Old Maid’s Day would someday be as popular as Mother’s Day.
Observed annually on the first Sunday in June, National Cancer Survivor’s Day sets aside time to “demonstrate that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality.”
#CancerSurvivorsDay
The day is a way for survivors to share their journey and offer hope and inspiration to those who have been newly diagnosed. Cancer survivors know the emotions and challenges associated with receiving a cancer diagnosis. They also know where the resources and support are for newly diagnosed cancer patients. The day encourages a celebration for survivors and their families. The day also offers a wellspring of support and outreach to cancer patients everywhere.
While every cancer and treatment is different, cancer survivors know the journey is often overwhelming. National Cancer Survivor’s Day brings survivors and their families together in a wellspring of support.
HOW TO OBSERVE CANCER SURVIVOR’S DAY
Each year, communities, hospitals and support groups host events and celebrations around the United States honoring cancer survivors. Events may include parades, carnivals, art exhibits, contests, and testimonies. President George W.
