NATIONAL CURVES DAY

National Curves Day is celebrated on the second Wednesday of October. Its launch in 2015 was celebrated as year 1 as the groundwork commenced over 100 weeks prior via social media platforms. This was in efforts to stop body shaming while encouraging women to embrace all things plus positive. As the movement grew so did the urge and desire to empower men who faced challenges battling society’s norms to do the same. In 2017, it became COED (/inclusive) and the organization’s mission of Embrace.Encourage.Empower. attained equal purpose.

Initially centered around fashion, to-date it encompasses so much more. Catch the skinny, since education is power, here’s the key! National Curves Day is in the community 365 days through collaborations and its global ambassadors promoting, participating in, and hosting all things plus: from fun sip and shops, empowerment panels, to health and wellness tips and classes. The annual celebration is always kicked off with a meet and greet housing the everyday curvy bombshell and dapper bomber to industry influencers from diverse backgrounds of employment and stature. The events are always confidence and self-love driven with an art twist.

The pinnacle of these events is the Annual Honors & Fashion Gala, officially registered as #TheMetofPlus. The Honors and Fashion Gala is to highlight fashion, diversity, confidence and to thank industry innovators and powerhouses for their contribution to diversity. Attendance is highly encouraged as the experience can’t be re-lived through recap alone and this year in particular history is being made.

Expect a fashion, beauty, wellness, fitness, networking, and branding experience, it’s something for everyone! Guest include top designers, celebrity models, bloggers, editors, media insiders, and +influencers from across the globe.

Encourage. Empower.” for the curvy and plus community.

In 2018, the Registrar at National Day Calendar proclaimed National Curves Day to be observed annually on the second Wednesday in October.

NATIONAL ANGEL FOOD CAKE DAY

The delicious, light and fluffy angel food cake is the center of attention on National Angel Food Cake Day which is observed each year on October 10.

Originating in the United States and first becoming popular in the late 19th century, angel food cake was so named because of its airy lightness.  It was said to be the “food of the angels”.

Making angel food cake requires whipping egg whites until they are stiff then adding cream of tartar to the mixture to stabilize the egg whites.  Additional ingredients are then folded into the egg white mixture.

The cake is then usually baked in an ungreased tube pan leaving a hole in the middle of the cake.  The center tube allows the cake batter to rise higher as it clings to all sides of the pan.  After baking, the pan is inverted while cooling to prevent the cake from falling in on itself.

Usually rather than frosting, angel food cakes are topped with a glaze or a sweet fruit sauce and a swirl of whipped cream.
