NATIONAL MOM AND POP BUSINESS OWNERS DAY
Today, March 29, celebrates National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day. This day honors all small business owners. Small businesses are a vital part of the United States economy. These businesses are not always appreciated as they should be for the vital role that they play. Today we can show their much deserved appreciation.
Owning your own business is a goal that many people strive for. It takes long hours, hard work and much dedication. Countless hours of nurturing and growing the business are needed and are often successful because of the desire to reach the goal.
Some of these businesses are handed down from one generation to the next while others are new start-up ones. In the “Mom and Pop” businesses, besides the love for the business that the owner has, the personal service, to the customer, is unmatched.
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, there are more than 27 million small businesses in the United States
To celebrate, support the privately owned, small businesses in your communities.

NATIONAL SMOKE AND MIRRORS DAY
March 29 is National Smoke and Mirrors Day which is sometimes also referred to as Festival of Smoke and Mirrors Day.
Smoke and mirrors is a metaphor for a deceptive, fraudulent or insubstantial explanation or description. The source of the name is based on magicians’ illusions, where magicians make objects appear or disappear by extending or retracting mirrors amid a distracting burst of smoke. The expression may have a connotation of virtuosity or cleverness in carrying out such a deception. (Wikipedia)
Today is a day of illusions. The term “smoke and mirrors” means something is not really as it appears to be. People often put up “smoke and mirrors” to hide something. The term also refers to things that distract attention from the real issue at hand. People sometimes appear to be straight forward and honest but that might not always be the case. Therefore, the idea today is to bring awareness to people that what they see or hear may not always be what it appears.

NATIONAL LEMON CHIFFON CAKE DAY
Today is a food holiday celebrating the lemon chiffon cake. Lemon Chiffon Cake Day is celebrated annually on March 29th.
For a nice refreshing spring dessert, chiffon cake is a very light cake made with vegetable oil, eggs, sugar, flour, baking powder, and flavorings. A fluffy texture is made by beating egg whites until stiff and folding them into the cake batter before baking. Chiffon cakes tend to be lower in saturated fat than butter cakes, potentially making them healthier than their butter-heavy counterparts.
“The chiffon cake was invented in 1927 by Harry Baker, a California insurance salesman turned caterer. Baker kept the recipe secret for 20 years until he sold it to General Mills. At this point the name was changed to “chiffon cake” and a set of 14 recipes and variations was released to the public in a Betty Crocker pamphlet published in 1948.” (Wikipedia)
Today would be a good day to find a recipe for Lemon Chiffon Cake and bake up a delicious dessert to enjoy.
